In Loving Memory of Our Friend — Jana Dee Smith
As the Kamas Valley Community Foundation, we are saddened by the sudden and unexpected death of our dear friend, Jana Dee Smith. Without her humanitarian vision and love for our valley, we likely would not have the South Summit Education Foundation or its successor, the Kamas Valley Community Foundation. Jana and Steve have contributed countless hours and donations to establish scholarships for hundreds of High School Seniors and numerous grants for teachers. Our Community Foundation extended that education vision to support local humanitarian, arts, and recreation opportunities. We are a better community because of Jana and Steve Smith.
To honor this profound legacy, we would like to express our appreciation and give back by establishing a fund to create a beautiful and fitting memorial in her name. We are hoping to provide beautiful art and a public memorial park or garden. If that can come to fruition, we have an amazing 100,000-dollar match! All tax-deductible donations will benefit the community and honor Jana’s memory for generations to come.

The Kamas Valley Community Foundation (KVCF) is rooted in the legacy of the South Summit Education Foundation, which for years supported scholarships, teacher recognition, and classroom enrichment in South Summit schools. Today, we continue that work while broadening our reach—funding educational, cultural, arts, humanitarian, recreational, and other community projects that strengthen life across the valley. We “HEAR” you, and together, we have structured the Kamas Valley Community Foundation’s Values as follows:
