Recreation Pillar
As a Recreational Pillar, we naturally focus on improving community health, well-being, and quality of life through the development and enhancement of recreational opportunities. These objectives are pursued by raising funds, managing resources, and forming partnerships with local government entities and non-profits that support public parks, trails, programs, and facilities.
“We nurture Strength that builds connections in our community.”
Core Goals:
Fundraising and financial sustainability: Our primary goal is to generate gifts from individuals, corporations, governments, and other foundations to support local parks, programs, departments, and recreation facilities. This revenue helps pay for capital improvements, programs, and ongoing needs that go beyond the scope of a local city or county budget.
Enhancing programs and facilities: We provide funding for projects that improve existing recreational assets and develop new ones. This includes constructing and maintaining parks, playgrounds, trails, and other facilities, as well as launching new programs.
Increasing access and equity: We strive to remove barriers to participation for disadvantaged or underrepresented populations, including low-income families, youth, and people with disabilities. Our goals often include working with the Education Pillar to establish scholarship programs and to provide financial assistance for those in need.
Promoting healthy lifestyles: We support programs and facilities that increase physical activity and promote well-being for all ages. The objective is to improve the community's overall mental, physical, and emotional health.
Youth development: We prioritize rewarding recreational experiences for young people, especially those who are economically, physically, or mentally disadvantaged. We can assist in the acquisition of needed equipment. Through these programs, youth can build self-confidence, learn new skills, and connect with nature.
Environmental stewardship: We work to preserve, protect, and enhance natural spaces, trails, and parks for future generations. Projects may involve conservation efforts, outdoor education, and creating opportunities for the community to engage with nature. Helping youth discover the outdoors and connecting with nature can bring lasting physical and mental health benefits.
Fostering community engagement: By creating events, volunteer opportunities, and community-building programs, we help strengthen social connections and develop a sense of belonging. This objective often involves outreach and marketing to build broad community support.
Strategic partnerships: We collaborate with park and recreation departments, businesses, and other non-profit organizations to leverage resources and maximize the value of their programs. Partnerships can help fund projects, provide in-kind donations, and expand outreach.
Innovation and best practices: We aim to foster a culture of continuous improvement by seeking out innovative approaches to recreation and wellness. We also document and publicize successful models to encourage their replication elsewhere.
